Behind every Bungalow Graphics illustration, there is a man, a pencil, and a lot of music.
That man is Charlie Adam.
The Alps as a playground
Born in Besançon, Charlie grew up in Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc. He studied at the Geneva School of Applied Arts, although he admits he often preferred racing down the slopes to attending classes. The mountains, skiing, and sunshine would never leave him: they became the backdrop for all his work. Today, he lives in Annecy with his family.
A style recognizable at first glance
Bold colors, a retro touch, and a never-far-off sense of humor. Charlie blends nostalgia, design, and nods to bygone eras or distant places. Among his influences, he cites French illustrators Serge Clerc and Alain Grée, comics, and the American Lowbrow movement.
Postcards at Bungalow Graphics
His first drawings gained attention in Chamonix in the form of postcards. Bungalow Graphics, his publishing house based in Annecy, was born from this. Posters, laminated prints, everyday objects: his illustrations find their place in homes, chalets, and shops.
His work has also won over big names in the mountains. He notably designed the poster for the Val d'Isère First Snow Race and created a limited-edition ski for Dynastar.
Working with pleasure
Charlie draws from morning to night and writes down every idea as soon as it pops up. It is impossible for him to work without music: jazz, rock, and "oldies" set the rhythm for his days. His motto perfectly summarizes his state of mind:
"Always enjoy yourself while working, and don't wait for someone to come and get you!"
Perhaps that is the secret of his illustrations: they convey the joy with which they were
drawn.
